sometimes proteins give more information that DNA sequence based studies. For example in the case of eukaryotes there are introns and exons, but final protein may be different and there may have more activities like post translational modifications, which can correlate and describe well the evolution of particular organism or a particular gene..

Basing on the fact that Proteins form the basic biochemical components of life, and Life's processes i.e the DNA structuring that determines the cell's activities, they become the building blocks of life!! Hence, we must study them to understand the conditions of life & living.......
