wjhat does it mean by 'positive space'?
Positive space, in a drawing, painting, or other two-dimensional work of art, is the space occupied by your subject matter. It's the part of the paper where you've drawn the features of your composition. I think that this is easiest to understand when thinking in terms of negative space, which is blank space in a composition where nothing has been drawn. If you google "positive space" you'll find several bad examples, and then a few good ones.
