if two genes are linked, what does that mean about their physical location on chromosomes?

Two genes are said to be linked if they are located on the same chromosome.

Note that to say that the genes are linked does not tell you anything about where the genes are on the chromosome or how close/far apart from each other the genes are. In order to address those questions, you need to look at recombinant frequencies and perform gene mapping.
