Sam bought a new skateboard. In the state where he lives, the sales tax rate is 6%. If c is the cost of the skateboard and t is the total cost, including the tax, then the variables are related by the equation 1.06c = t. Which variable is the independent variable?
Hi! Welcome to OpenStudy! The cost (c) of the skateboard is your independent variable because your total cost (t) is dependent on the cost of the skate board
the answer is c. The cost of the skateboard is unchanging.
Now the tax, that's changing. but the cost of the skateboard won't change.
The independent variable is the one you control. It is INDEPENDENT of the outcome, as it is controlled before the equation/experiment/etc takes place. The dependent variable is DEPENDENT on the independent variable, because if the I is changed, the resulting D is changed as well. That would make the answer c.
thank you :)
omg thank you again im starting to understand this now
thank you again that was the last question on my quiz. I had trouble understanding it when my teacher was explaining it in class today.
I'm glad you found this helpful :)
