What does Secession mean and why was the South threatening to do it over westward expansion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Secession is when a state threatens to leave a country. The south threatened to leave the U.S. because they did not want President Abraham Lincoln to be president because he was against slavery, he also won by a lot sense there where two people running for the opposing side and he was running on his own. He won without a single southern vote, which made the south very upset.
