Line of Symmetry help please! What is the equation for the line of symmetry in this figure? x = 0 x = -1 y = -1 y = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it x = 0, because there is only y axis symmetry?

OpenStudy (atlas):

Can you draw a line in the figure which divides the figure into EXACTLY two similar parts??

OpenStudy (atlas):

@mamasherman : NO

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (atlas):

Please draw a lines as I suggested

OpenStudy (anonymous):

folding in in half vertically

OpenStudy (atlas):

right! now if you observe the line of fold will pass parallel to y-axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1393565966437:dw|

OpenStudy (atlas):

and the value of x always remains equal to -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, i see

OpenStudy (atlas):

so........i hope you can guess the line of symmetry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

line parallel is to the left of y

OpenStudy (atlas):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why always -1 for x?

OpenStudy (atlas):

see the line of fold and find out the values of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, i dont get it

OpenStudy (atlas):

see the line of fold and find out the values of x at random points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe i am making it too difficult

OpenStudy (atlas):

oh no its ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i am confused as to the line of fold because it is not there, and the y is..

OpenStudy (atlas):

|dw:1393566186188:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, i thought the line of fold, would be further to the left. that is why i didnt know where u were getting -1

OpenStudy (atlas):

the line that you drew is parallel to y-axis (see figure) and the value of x on the line always remains -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is x= -1

OpenStudy (atlas):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but now, i know why it is!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which will help me with future problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much!
