Line IJ has an equation of a line y=3x-8, and line KL has an equation of a line y=3x+4. These two line are A.) Parallel because the slopes of the lines are the same. B.) Perpendicular because the product of the slopes is -1. C.) Both representations of the same line. D.) Neither parallel or perpendicular. Could someone please explain to me how to solve this?

Could you explain why?

OpenStudy (dmb1215):

if the lines have the same slope it means that the two lines are parallel now if they were opposite to each other or the negative recipical then it would be perpendicular and the only thing you really have to look at is the slope for these type of questions.

and the slope is 3 on both?

OpenStudy (dmb1215):

yep

thank you!
