Determine two different values of "b" in x^2 + bx + 30 so that the expression can be factored into the product of two binomials. Explain how you determined those values and show each factorization. Explain how your precess would change if the expression was 2x^2 + bx + 30.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well b is the sum of the factors of 30. Thats the starting point.. so find 2 different pairs of factors of 30, then add then to get a b value.. hope it helps. so the example... divide each term by 2, so you have a monic quadratic \[x^2 + bx + 15\] find a pair of factors of 15 then add the factors to get a value for b

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

then the factored binomials are 2(x + factor 1)(x + factor 2)
