All I know is that The Bantu migrations resulted in the growth of several interior cities in Central and South Africa, among them Great Zimbabwe. These cities prospered by sending interior trade goods, especially gold, copper and iron, along the Limpopo and Save Rivers to cities along the Indian Coast. Wealth in trade led to the rise of a new elite that ruled Great Zimbabwe and the surrounding kingdom from the 11th through the 15th centuries CE. The people of Great Zimbabwe relied not only on trade but also on cattle herding and agriculture. Over time, the city and its kingdom became known for its distinctive stone architecture and pottery as well. The region declined in the late 15th century CE, and Great Zimbabwe itself was largely abandoned.
