Solve 5x - 6y = -38

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

What are we solving it for exactly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve the equation for x and y

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

For both..? Well you have to isolate the variables and then get it alone.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

5x - 6y = -38 -- add 6y to both sides 5x = 6y - 38 -- divide by 5 x = (6y - 38) / 5 or x = 6/5y - 38/5 5x - 6y = -38 -- subtract 5x from both sides -6y = -5x - 38 -- divide by -6 y = (-5x - 38) / -6 or y = 5/6x + 19/3
