Help! I need help getting rid of the y http://oi60.tinypic.com/244y5xz.jpg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well how do u think u should do it @Nerdy_3000

OpenStudy (nerdy_3000):

I'm obviously very confused! I was trying to subtract the y from the other equation but it still doesn't make any sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to fill y x and z in with annumber and ur answer has to be 4

OpenStudy (nerdy_3000):

Is the number 2 that I have to fill in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perfect yes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\large \begin{array}{llll} x-y+2z=4\implies &x-y+2z=4\\ x-3z=1\implies &x{\color{blue}{ +0y}}-3z=1\\ 2y-z=-15\implies &{\color{blue}{ 0x}}+2y-z=-15 \end{array}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x-y+2z=4 ...(1) x-3z=1 ...(2) 2y-z=-15 ...(3) multiply (1) by 2 and add in (3) 2x+3z=-7 ...(4) solve (2) and (4) to get x and z. then put in (3) or (1) to get the value of y.
