I don't really understand how to find the area using the diagonal line.

use Pythagoras to find the third side of the triangle (i.e. the edge of the rectangle) the area and perimeter are then trivial calculation of a rectangle - knowing its 2 sides

If you know about 'pythogorean triples' (e.g. 3,4,5 or 5,12,13 etc.) then you should be able to work out the third side very easily without a calculator
