if u take Kathryn's score as "x"

score of Michael would be " 2x - 70" , since Michael’s score was 70 less than twice Kathryn’s

but sum of both of their score is 425

which means
x + ( 2x - 70 ) = 425

now solve this for "x" and u will get the Kathryn's score

and put the value u got for "x" in
(2x - 70) and simplify it .. u will get the michael's score...
