Negative exponents are the same as one over the same number to the positive power.
Example:
\[2^{-2} = \frac{ 1 }{ 2^{2} }\]

That should help. Also, when multiplying fractions you simply multiple across.

numerator x numerator
--------------------
denominator x denominator

and then always simplify. ;D
