OpenStudy (jamanorthi):

A computer randomly generates a 4 character computer password of 3 digits followed by 1 letter. . Find the probability that an assigned password does not contain p.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25 of the 26 possibilities for the last letter are not p, so 25 / 26 ... if you want fraction .9615 ...if you want a decimal

OpenStudy (jamanorthi):

Can u kindly show me how u did it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The 3 digits in the code are irrelevant. We only care about the last character in the code: the letter. There are 26 possibilities for the last letter, right? Pr( not a P) = number of letters that are not P / total number of letters 25 / 26

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On average, 25 out of 26 random letter selections, we're not going to get a p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We can be about 96% certain that if we randomly pick a letter, it will not be a p. Make sense?

OpenStudy (jamanorthi):

Oh ok thanks
