One of the themes of Macbeth centers on evil, which Shakespeare saw as a force beyond human understanding. Do you think Shakespeare also saw evil as stronger than the forces of good? support your answer with events from the play.

@ganeshie8 @wio @Luigi0210 @Zale101 @Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I think he did, don't you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe so but what support can I add onto that will support the idea that he did! @Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I really don't know, I have never studied Shakespeare.

OpenStudy (zale101):

Here's what i got, Shakespeare highlighted Tragedy in Macbeth and he used "evil" things to represent the tragic things humans do. In Macbeth, Witches, devils, his wife (who murdered the king), they all influenced Macbeth's life into developing a tragic sense in his life and the whole story. "Evil can be stronger than the forces of good" yes it can, according to Macbeth, the evil destroyed him and made the whole story tragic, so the force of evil was more effecting then the force of good. It highlights how humans make bad decisions and choose evil actions over good. Just like Macbeth, he never chose to discard the wicked witches, if he didn't listen to heir fake prophecies his life decision would've been better.

One critic has observed the part of Macbeth's tragedy is the fact that many of his strengths are also his weaknesses. Explain his apparent contradictions. What are Macbeths strengths Which ones also work against him?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It says to include examples as well! @Zale101

OpenStudy (zale101):

How about using the scene when Macbeth and Lady Macbeth went to kill the king and Macbeth, Macbeth was crying and didn't dare to kill the king while Lady Macbeth thought him as a coward and she feared the people have awakened. SO, she went and killed him by herself... Macbeth, his strength and ambition on becoming a king was his weakness. His weakness on attempting to killing the king.

OpenStudy (zale101):

after all, the plan for his ambition on becoming a king, was his weakness

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about his strengths? @Zale101

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait that is his strength and weakness overall?

OpenStudy (zale101):

according to Macbeth strengths was ambition and courage to become the king, but his coward part was when he feels guilt and regret on killing the king

OpenStudy (zale101):

before the king died, his status was in the military, and was honored by the people, defeated many people in battles which made people to trust him including Kin Duncan. This can be an example of his strength, he was courageous and ambition which made people to trust him

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and then his weakenss would be over confidence when killing the king? @Zale101

OpenStudy (zale101):

yes
