Randall's sock drawer contains 5 black socks, 2 gray socks, 3 white socks, and 1 brown sock. If Randall selects 3 socks from the drawer in the dark, how many combinations of sock colors are possible? 30 10 15 9

My educated guess would be 24 but obviously that is incorrect The first sock there can be a choice of 4 colors - black, grey, white and brown The second sock chosen then are a choice of 3 colors - black, grey and white (No brown since there is only 1 brown sock) The third sock there is only 2 choices - black and white (No brown or white left) So that is 4*3*2=24 There are 24 possible combinations of sock colors
