In a hockey game, Wayne scored 15% of the team's goals. If Wayne scored 5 goals, which equation could be used to find out the number of points scored by the whole team? A. x/15 = 5/100<---- my answer B. 15/100 = x/5 C. 15/x = 5/100 D. 15/100 = 5/x
It is D. This is a cross multiplication problem... I actually love these and, unlike so many equations, I use this in every day life even as an adult. the first fraction is 15/100 because he scored 15% out of 100%. The second part is 5 over x because he scored 5 goals (corresponding, directly across from 15%) over x (this is our unknown)
15% of what number(x) is 5... percent formula : is/of = %/100 now sub 5/x = 15/100
I agree with Jaclyn...it is D
thanks guys
thats what we are here for :)
