How do I find the b value in y=3x+b, if it passes through point (1,4)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well just substitute x = 1 and y = 4 into the equation ans solve for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That seems too easy! So b=1?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats correct... since the point is on the line, substituting the x and y values allows you to find the b value, or y-intercept hope it helped

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One more...y= -1/2x + b, through point (-4,7). I got b=5, correct?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats it.. well done

Thanks!
