File cabinet: Each drawer in a 5 drawer file has 50 folders. (250) You are searching for some info that is in one of the folders, but you do not know which folder has the information. 1. What is the probability that the info is in the first drawer you choose?
@ganeshie8
1/250?
try agian
keep in mind, question is asking u to find probability of choosing correct "drawer"
how many drawers are there in total ?
5/250?
I have another one What is the probability that the info is not in the first folder you choose? Would this be 1/250?
@ganeshie8
1. What is the probability that the info is in the first drawer you choose? total number of drawers = 5 number of drawers wid correct info = 1
so probability for choosing correct drawer = 1/5
thats the answer for ur first question
see if that makes sense
for the second question also, work in similar way : find total number of folders find number of folders without correct info
@ganeshie8 4/50?
and for this one what is the probabbility that the info is not in the first six folders you choose?
total number of folders = 250 number of folders without correct info = 249 so, probability that the info is not in the first folder you choose = 249/250
^^ thats for ur 2nd question okay ?
244/250 for the third one?
nope
u r opening the folders 6 times : u need to find the probability each time, and multiply all of them
probability for info not containing in first folder : 249/250
probability for info not containing in second folder : 248/249
probability for info not containing in third folder : 247/248
oh till 244
yess
everything cancels out, and the answer wud be 244/250 so, you're right actually !!!
249/250 * 248/249 * 247/248 * 246/247 * 245/246 * 244/255
if u simplify that, u wud ge 244/250
ok wait for other fractions on my hw i got a decimal for an answer is it wrong?
wat other fractions ?
5/52 times 12/52 times 4/52 i got a decimal
