OpenStudy (usman1995):

if a car number plate consists of three letters followed by two digits, what no. of car number plates can be made if letters and digits: can be repeated cannot be repeated ???????/

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

The principle of multiplication. Let me show how it works. In playing cards, there are 4 possible suits, as well as 13 possible values for each suit. Then, to get the number of unique cards you can form, simply multiply the possibilities... 4 suits times 13 values per suit You get 52... which is precisely the number of cards in a pack (sans the Jokers, though) Get it? This is just... that, on a much larger scale ^_^

OpenStudy (usman1995):

no this is permutation and combination

OpenStudy (usman1995):

my question uses the methods of permutation and combination i just wanted to know the exact and clear application of these two

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

If letters and digits can be repeated, the process is far simpler than permutations as you probably know them, it is simply an application of the principle of multiplication. Now, if letters may be repeated, how many choices do you have for the first letter?

OpenStudy (usman1995):

26combination1
