What is mixed navigation in web design?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mixed navigation implies there is both a top navigation bar for a website and a side navigation bar (both horizontal and vertical). This is most commonly used when you have main pages such as Home | About | Videos, and then sub pages within that subject (Cat Videos | Dog Videos | Bird videos) Where the Cat/Dog/Bird videos would be the vertical navigation bar. In *practical* web design, your top (horizontal) navigation will point to directories such as /about /videos from your root, and your sub pages will be /about/info.html about/contact.html or /videos/cats.html /videos/dogs.html
