How are human beings and chimpanzees phylogenetically related?

They share a common ancestor, meaning they share DNA. Humans and chimps genome's are 96-98% similar. The 2–4% difference in the genomes is actually millions and millions of bases (individual components of DNA). In some areas of the DNA sequence there is major rearrangements. These account for about 4–10% dissimilarity between humans and chimps. I don't agree with the above statement but here's what the 'pros' say :P
