2r - 9 > - 6 ....the symbol > has a line under it btw. Any help??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are the options?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

< 1 1/2 ..with a line under the symbol > -7 1/2 ..with a line under the symbol > 1 1/2 ..with a line under the symbol < -7 1/2 ..with a line under the symbol ...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you mean ≥ greater than or equal to and ≤ less than or equal to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think the answer is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know its not -7 1/2 ..but I honestly have no idea what the answer could be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what to do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's similar to r - 2 >= -1 solve for r >= 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be the first answer.. |dw:1393883500173:dw|1 1/2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in this example that i show above if u were to plug in say 0 to the equation for r then u would get an invalid answer such as -2 is greater than or equal to -1 which is false this can not happen for that equation to be true.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but the reason ur sign doesn't change is because u didn't divide by a negative number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you ..I think I understood

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your welcome anytime i'm glad i could help
