It’s important that an essay not be a series of quotes or paraphrased material; one’s own analysis must be part of the essay. How can you create a balance between your own analysis and the source material?

1) Make a working thesis statement - something you want to prove
2) The so called quotations are the proves/sources for the thesis
3) use the so called quotations as genuine facts, and derive from them what you are proving (or that the thesis statement, whatever it is,) is true
