I need help to find x. See the picture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does anybody know the answer,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, see how the 2 angles are equal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And they also share that side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use pythag thm to find that shared side. then use pthag thm again to find x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, give me a sec.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would the shared side be 17.9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lemme check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 20.6

OpenStudy (nikato):

No. I don't believe u can use the pyth. Theorem You would be using a proportion because since the angles are congruent, you use the angle bisector theorem which states that the sides would be proportional So x. 19.3 -- = ------ 3.9. 7.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevermind i got 17.9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75.27=7.2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah true. good call @nikato

OpenStudy (nikato):

I don't. It's a funky answer though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75.27/7.2=10.45 7.2x/7.2=x 10.5=x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's an answer choice. So, I think that it's right.

OpenStudy (nikato):

Oh yes. Nvm. Correct! It's one of your answer choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, thank you @nikato

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Looks like everybody liked your help. You got three medals.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

first time hearing angle bisector theorem lol... care to explain a bit or provide a good link @nikato :)

OpenStudy (nikato):

Thanks for the medals everybody! And yes, here is the angle bisector theorem http://www.mathwarehouse.com/geometry/similar/triangles/angle-bisector-theorem.php

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ty :) wonder if the proof involves similar triangles and stuff... il try it later maybe..

OpenStudy (nikato):

No problem. I'm pretty sure you can also google up the proof. It's in there somewhere
