How did Mansa Musa's pilgrimage to Mecca affect those in Mali

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mansa Musa was a 14th century ruler of the Malian Empire in North Africa, and one of the richest people in the world at the time. He was a devout Muslim and made a pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324 with 60,000 men and 12,000 slaves, who he fed along the way. After his pilgrimage he embarked on a large building program, including the mosque and university in Timbuktu that still stands today. It also increased the influence of Islamic culture.
