No, the output of work can not be greater than the input.

So the inventor says I can produce 120J from 110J
I say, 'What sorcery is this?'

So he claimed that he got 10J out of nowhere! 
Is that possible? Not according to Law of conservation of mass and energy
 [I am hoping this is not a nuclear reaction] :D

So, you shouldn't believe the inventor's claim. :)
