Explain why rain or the atmosphere causes color to appear

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Color to appear as in a rainbow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I want to know WHY they those colors appear in the rainbow. I tried looking it up on several websites but they just don't explain what I want to know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As a generic answer, color appears because the water droplets in the atmosphere or the rain itself refract the light from the sun.

Think of the water droplets like a prism, the light rays bounce around inside of the water droplets and separate into the colors that make up the rainbow or make our sky look blue.

O ok that make senses! Thanks for explaining it to me!

No problem!
