Solve the system: 3x + 4y = -33 -2x + 4y = -18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use elimination: multiply -1 to the 2nd equation to eliminate the 4 or you can just subtract the 4...to remove Y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OR you can use substititution...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

elimination is easy to use here... when you remove y, you 5x=-15... solve for x, after you find x, sub in x in one of the two formulas

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok can you show me how to find the Y now plz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you found x=-3 substitute x=-3 in any of the two formulas..(you can use either equation 1 or 2)to get y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=-6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct! did you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

thank u
