Please help with geometry problem!! Question and diagram posted in chat

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

OpenStudy (nikato):

So what are you learning in geometry now?

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

I learning about circles, tangents, arcs and chords.

OpenStudy (nikato):

Do you know the answer? I'm not 100% sure but I got 3.6

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

Yes thats right! Do you mind explaining it to me please?

OpenStudy (nikato):

Yay! You can draw line segment CP

OpenStudy (nikato):

And <ACP would be a right angle because it is inscribed to the diameter

OpenStudy (nikato):

Since the diameter AP=10. Then AO=5=OP Let x=BP and 5-x=OB Are you following?

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

Yes im following so far

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

Then how do you find CB?

OpenStudy (nikato):

Yea. I was looking at it that way, but it turns out you don't need to find that at all. Do you something like the geometric mean when a right triangle is divided into two other right triangles?i forgot what it's called. Haha.

OpenStudy (nikato):

Found it in my textbook! Each leg is the geometric mean of the hypotenuse and the segment of the hypotenuse adjacent to the leg

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

Oh yes thanks so much!! CP is the geometric mean between AP and BP, which is 3.6. And since BP and DP are both radii, DP is also 3.6!

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

Thank you so much! Your awesome :)

OpenStudy (nikato):

You're welcome! And I believe you have AC the geometric mean of AB and AP

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

Yeah thanks!!
