First to answer gets fan and medal!!!
The two interior faces of the cubes give 49 each, but you also need the area of the slanted piece joining the cubes, which is a rectangle with area = length x width.
so would it be 98 sq m? @douglaswinslowcooper
98 sq m is the area of the cube faces. What about that slanted piece? What is its height? (7) and what is its length? (make a right triangle and calculate hypotenuse.)
So it's 147 all together? @douglaswinslowcooper
I have not done it, but if you got the slanted piece correct and added it to the 98 you have the right answer. I think the slanted piece is 49 sqrt(2), but check it out.
I do not see my answer there, so they must just mean the two 49 sq m pieces. Sorry to have led you astray. Apparently the slanted piece is not considered to have an inner area?
