1. What are the coordinates of the image of the point (2, –4) after a dilation with a center of (0, 0) and scale factor of 4? 2. Determine the value of x. DO,k(x, 9) → (–10, –6) A. 5 B. 7 C. 12 D. 15

can you help me on those one

OpenStudy (btaylor):

What do you think the answers are?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first one (2,4) second one 7

OpenStudy (btaylor):

OK, neither are correct. A scale factor is a number (k) multiplied by a point to move it towards or away from the center, usually the origin. In the first one, you are given the scale factor, so multiply the given coordinate by that to get the result/image. In the second one, find the scale factor (k=x2/x1) and multiply it by the first y-coordinate.

OpenStudy (btaylor):

1. 4(2,-4) --> (4 x 2, 4 x -4) --> (8,-16) 2. k=-6/9 (here I'm using the y-values, but the same equation goes) = -2/3. X1 x -2/3 = -10 X1 = 15

thanks

yw. gotta go now, but use this formula and you should be able to figure the rest out. \[k=\frac{x_2}{x_1} = \frac{y_2}{y_1}\]
