you know the perimeter is 32. so l+w=32
the length is 2two feet longer than width so length is W+2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So should it be 30? I just dont get it I followed the instructions on how to do the problem.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so w+w+2=32
and 2w+2=32
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so 15?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2w=30 then divide both sides by 2 w=15?

the perimeter is the SUM of all sides
so it should be 2w+2l=32
2w+2(w+2)=32
4w+4=32
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
\(\bf length=l\qquad width=w
\\ \quad \\
perimeter=l+l+w+w\implies 2l+2w=32
\\ \quad \\
\textit{length is 2ft longer than width}\implies l={\color{blue}{ w+2}}
\\ \quad \\
perimeter=2l+2w\implies 2({\color{blue}{ w+2}})+2w=32\implies 2w+4+2w=32
\\ \quad \\
4w+4=32\implies 4w=32-4\implies 4w=28\implies w=?\)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
7?
The width is 7 then?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes thats it
sorry
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
yeap

making the length 9?
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
7+2 = 9, yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Thank you very much I will remember that.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes

ou can check it by 2(9)+2(7)=32
OpenStudy (anonymous):
GOOD LUCK!!!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it be 7 for width and 9 for length. 7+7+9+9=32
it cant be 8+8+10+10 because that equals 36
