Thanks for your affirmation, @douglaswinslowcooper . It's weird to think about though, because more significant figures can show more. Example: I use a ruler, I see that my phone is 14.52cm tall. And I use a micrometer and see that some aluminum foil is 0.00017mm thick. For the ruler: \(\quad\)I doubt 14.52cm is EXACT (like \(14.52\bar0\), like 14.520000000000...). But it should round to be about that. I went from 0.00016500 because it rounds up to 0.00017. I went to 0.00017499 because it rounds down to 0.00017. And you see what happened. Which is more precise? No one measurement will be exact, it represents how exact you are, though, if you write it correctly. I hope this helps!

If you report your measurement as 17, it is assumed that it is between 16.5 and 17.5 thus 17 +- 0.5. If you report it as 17.00, it is assumed to be between 16.995 and 17.005, thus 17+- 0.005. So the number of significant figures gives a rough and ready estimate of the precision of your measured value.
