Place the steps for solving by the substitution method in order. 1 : Write the solution as an ordered pair. 2 : Check by adding the equations to see if a variable will eliminate. 3 : If it doesn't eliminate, try subtraction. Change the terms in the second equation to the opposite and check to see if a variable will eliminate. 4 : Substitute the value into one of the original equations and solve for the other variable. 5 : Solve for the remaining variable.
