8/5x + 3/x?
do you know how to find the common denominator? if you are unsure, does this at least sound like something familiar?
No, i don't but yes it does sound familiar
ok so you know how 1/1 is the same as 2/2? the way you get 2/2 is you multiplied the top by 2 and the bottom by 2, and it does not change your answer which is 1. the same works with 8/5x + 3/x . in order to add fractions the bottom needs to be the same. 1/2 + 1/2 = (1+1)/2 lets start off with the bottoms of each fraction 8/5x and 3/x what could you do to the right side to make the bottom match the left side?
incase i run out of time you can multiply the right side by 5/5 which turns it into 15/5x now you can add 8/5x+15/5x do you know what this gives you? and are you understanding what is going on?
is it 23/5x?
it is! but do you understand how we got 15/5x? and also why we needed to do that?
