Theo is tracking the growth of his plant. When he got the plant, it was 2 cm high. It grows 0.5 cm per day. Which graph represents the growth of the plant?

@whpalmer4 @tkhunny @charlotte123 @Preetha @tHe_FiZiCx99

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Okay, he got the plant at t = 0, right?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

If the plant grows 0.5 cm per day, how much will the height change in 2 days?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will change to 1.5

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

If he got it when it was 2cm that means its y intercept is (0,2)

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

I think that's what it says, making a equation, y = 0.5x + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

day 0 : height is 2cm day 1: height is 2 cm + 0.5 cm = 2.5 cm day 2: height is 2 cm + 0.5 cm + 0.5 cm = 3.0 cm day n: height is 2 cm + n*0.5cm Which graph corresponds to that? You already know that the y-intercept is at (0,2) (the starting height). Pick the graph that goes through that point and rises 1 cm every 2 days.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@whpalmer and @tHe_FiZiCx99 would it be d?

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

an easy trick is to look at which graph has the y intercept of 2. If they all have it at 2, then their slopes are different. The slope is the constant difference. It grows 0.5 each day, so rise 0.5 and move one to the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so @tHe_FiZiCx99 which one is it?

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Um, look at the graphs and see which has a Y-intercept of 2. I get the feeling you don't understand it >.>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh its b thx :)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

yes, b is the correct answer.
