Simplify the following expression and identify the properties used in each step: (6x^2-5x+1)-2(x^2+3x-4)

OpenStudy (displayerror):

Your expression: \[(6x^2 - 5x + 1) - 2(x^2 + 3x - 4)\] Distribute the 2: \[(6x^2 - 5x + 1) - (2x^2 + 6x - 8)\] Combine like terms (i.e. add the coefficients of the x^2 to generate a new coefficient for the x^2 term, and likewise for the x and x^0 (constant) term) to get \[(6-2)x^2 + (-5 - 6)x + (1- (-8))\] Simply combine the terms and you should get to your answer.
