This is a sum notation, and the way it works is like this:\[\sum_{n=1}^{5}(3n+1)\] is the sum of 3n+1 for all n from n=1 to 5. So it's (3*1+1)+(3*2+1)+(3*3+1)+. . .
up to (3*5+1)
So the first term is 3+1, the second term is 6+1, the last term is 15+1, and the sum is 4+7+10+13+16=50.
can someone help with the second one?
