There isn't a best. Every guitar manufacturer makes $100 guitar toys, all the way up to $5000 custom guitars.

I prefer Gibson for nice guitars, because I play metal and mathrock mostly, and the playing feel is rad, plus the pups sound good. I recommend Ibanez for value/tone for dollar. also, get a nice tube amp like a Vox ac4tv for cheap and you will be golden. Its all preference. also it depends on what you want to play. I have an acoustic for jazzier/folkier stuff, and an electric for the heavier pellet.  also, cheap japanese old guitars sound really cool sometimes.
