heat. when a particle receives heat, it converts it into energy and the particle will vibrate causing the particle to move further apart. in solid, the particle have fixed position and they can only vibrate. in liquid, the particle are not arranged therefore have more space for movement. in air, the particles are far apart and does not have a fixed position therefore they caan move about freely.

OpenStudy (tester97):

I googled that ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because it didn't say you were typing. :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tester97 You mean this? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080908053356AAu5n0f

OpenStudy (tester97):

Yup that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

States of matter when u look from a quantum view (microscopic view) is nothing but where particles are either having low energy.. (solid) or particles having high energy (liquids or gas) so basically how much energy it has, decides whether its solid or liquid or gas :).. just like (in a room, there will be people who are just sitting and doing nothing, and some people who are running around very energetic)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't really understand...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which part? :P if you see room full of kids where kids are running around.. thats like gas and if you see those kids sitting and maintaing order.. thats like solid so whats the difference between the two? how much energy the kids or the atoms have..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

'how much energy the kids or the atoms have.. ' I don't really understand that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Luigi0210 Can you help?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Sorry, I've never taken physics.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. But why are you even in here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinetic energy dude.. if they have lots of kinetic energy.. they tend to jiggle around.. and go away from each other.. less KINETIC ENERGY means MORE ORDER!! u know kinetic energy right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea so that :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what would I exactly say in the essay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try to put it in your own words now.. now that you understand the concept? right?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kinda.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer is kinetic energy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well.. yea..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so the answer would be kinetic energy, because if some kids are sitting down, that's like a solid. And if some kids are running around, that's like gas.
