How did the Federalists secure support for the new constitution? They explained why it was necessary to keep the states subservient to the federal government. They explained how equal voting rights for small states in the Senate would protect them from domination by large states. They explained how multiple factions in a large republic would restrain the federal government from autocratic rule. They explained how the constitution provided checks and balances on the president’s powers. They explained how the creation of a federal judiciary would improve inter- state trade.

Federalists knew that there were many issues under the articles as did everyone else. There was a lack of common currency, army supply problems, disputes between the states, etc. The Constitution gave one form of currency for all states rather than one state having one form of currency and another state having a different form of currency. This improved interstate trade because there were no longer currency issues.
