Solve the following system of equations. Please show your work x - y = 13 2x + y = 2 Explain which method you chose to solve the system and why you felt it was the best choice.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first add the two equations you have -y in the first eq and y in the second

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\large \begin{array}{llll} x \cancel{- y} = 13\\ 2x \cancel{+ y} = 2\\ \hline\\ 3x\qquad =15 \end{array}\) what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 5?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

notice, we ELIMINATED "y" to get "x" because the -y and +y were given really so that was the simpler way to go about it
