How does the contour plowing technique conserve soil .. can anyone help me with this Q

Contour plowing creates grooves in the soil. Because the bottom of each groove is at the same elevation throughout its length, rainfall gets trapped in each groove instead of running rapidly downhill to the nearest stream, carrying the topsoil with it. P.S. - This is the feedback section of Openstudy. Please post this kind of thing in the appropriate section (ex - Science)
