Allen bought 5 more golf balls than Mabel. Together Allen and Mabel bought 17 golf balls. How many golf balls did Mabel buy?

allen+mabel=17 but allen 5 more than mabel so allen=mabel+5 mabel+5+mabel=17 2*mabel=17-5=12 mabel=6
