PLEASE HELP!! (this is 8th grade physics)

Explain why both of the following statements are true.  Statement 1:  The total kinetic and potential energy of an object is called mechanical energy .  Statement 2:  The total kinetic and potential energy of the particles in an object is called thermal energy.

i think stement 1 is correct because you add them together but idk the 2nd one

well.. thermal energy is kinda the same thing as mechanical energy.. but usually when we are dealing with mechanics, we don't deal with tiny particles.. so we call it as thermal energy..
i dunno how to put that in words.. :-/
