Mythical creatures have a history on its own. The word “Mythical” means “occurring in or characteristic of myths or folk tales”, and folk tales have been around since human have been around. Most mythical creatures sound way to ridiculous to be true , but some other sound to ridiculous not to be real. The mare or the nightmare is a ghost or a night demon that terrorizes people while they sleep by sitting on their chest and suffocating them for they would be paralyzed and unable to cry out for help. The mare was also believed to "ride" horses, which left them exhausted and covered in sweat by the morning. The mare was even believed to trees ride trees which broke branches. According to Paul Devereux, mares included witches who took on the form of animals when their spirits went out while they were in trance. Animals such as frogs, cats, horses, hares, dogs, oxen, birds and often bees and wasps. To sum it all up a nightmare is a fiend that sat upon the chests of sleeping people creating the sensation of breathlessness, panic and a feeling of oppression. There are people who believe that if you put a tomb nail above your bed that no nightmare or demon would come in your room. There are many different creatures that are feared out of the unknown.
