New tools for OpenStudy?
As we all know, colors and fonts can make a huge difference in tutoring - especially for visual learners like me. I think there should be a font format tool (like the one in Microsoft Word) with options like color, font size, bold, italics, underlined, fonts, etc. Now, I know there is LaTeX, but writing in Latex can be very complicated to do and requires one to really learn all the codes for it. Let's face it - very few are going to take the time to do that. If fonts and colors were more easily available to the users, it could really help in tutoring classes like math and science. And, hey! Who doesn't like fonts and colors?
Anyone have any ideas?
I feel like this would be a good idea, did you post it in the OpenStudy suggestion box?
wow :O Might want to put that in Thomaster's suggestion box :3 Since these are ideas of what is to come in OS
Latex can be tricky to use. LOL @Jamierox4ev3r you copied me >v<
sorreh >.<
But yes, using the suggestion box might be easier.
yeah, we're just ambis... we don't know anything xDD moderators will probably know more, and a good place to start would be through Thommy's box ^_^
kk lol :D
I agree. For now, we'll have to use LaTex and the Notebook option. Don't know what the Notebook is? It gives you easy access to tons of different LaTex formats (of your choice, of course!) it can also be used to store information, like formulas and equations, so you can better help students (: See: http://prntscr.com/2yuzr3
Cool thanks!!
I posted this is Thommy's suggestion box too :D
I was summoned?
You have been summoned! Your opinion is valued!
What is the question you have pondered?
Wait add tis also to suggestion pls add geography subject also
We're pondering the thought of fonts and colors! What does thou thinkith of that?
y old english i am not familiar wid old eng
i think it is......................great XD
We already have LaTex and to add a GUI for it would be time consuming and there are far more important things needed for OS, and not enough man-power unfortunately :/
But there is a make-shift GUI, It's very plain and I am working on a new release with a friendly GUI but it's in BETA stages and I rarely have time for it :(
Also it has limited functionalities, let me get it for you.
Thanks!
No problem! It will take me a bit, i'm moving around some hosted files ...
Ok well this is the original version that amistre64 made, I'm not sure if it's exactly what you want but it's the best I can think of. http://amistre.tk/ColorMe_V1.html
Oh! Silly me xD it has no JavaScript attached *facepalm* let me re-upload it.
kk :D
Ok refresh the page I gave you
\[ \begin{array}l\color{red}{\text{T}}\color{orange}{\text{h}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{a}}\color{green}{\text{n}}\color{blue}{\text{k}}\color{purple}{\text{s}}\color{purple}{\text{!}}\color{red}{\text{}}\end{array} \]
\[ \begin{array}l\color{red}{\text{T}}\color{orange}{\text{H}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{I}}\color{green}{\text{S}}\color{blue}{\text{ }}\color{purple}{\text{I}}\color{purple}{\text{S}}\color{red}{\text{ }}\color{orange}{\text{S}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{O}}\color{green}{\text{O}}\color{blue}{\text{ }}\color{purple}{\text{C}}\color{purple}{\text{O}}\color{red}{\text{O}}\color{orange}{\text{L}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{}}\end{array} \]
Haha you got the hang of it ;) Hopefully with my in-dev build I can add more functionality like sizing and what not, but like i said, I am always busy D:
\[ \begin{array}l\color{red}{\text{T}}\color{orange}{\text{h}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{a}}\color{green}{\text{n}}\color{blue}{\text{k}}\color{purple}{\text{s}}\color{purple}{\text{ }}\color{red}{\text{s}}\color{orange}{\text{o}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{ }}\color{green}{\text{m}}\color{blue}{\text{u}}\color{purple}{\text{c}}\color{purple}{\text{h}}\color{red}{\text{!}}\color{orange}{\text{}}\end{array} \]
you can thank @amistre64 for that
\[ \begin{array}l\color{red}{\text{T}}\color{orange}{\text{h}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{a}}\color{green}{\text{n}}\color{blue}{\text{k}}\color{purple}{\text{s}}\color{purple}{\text{ }}\color{red}{\text{A}}\color{orange}{\text{m}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{i}}\color{green}{\text{s}}\color{blue}{\text{t}}\color{purple}{\text{r}}\color{purple}{\text{e}}\color{red}{\text{6}}\color{orange}{\text{4}}\color{#e6e600}{\text{}}\end{array} \]
how did he host the html webpage
He's got magic... that's how
^
@pixiedust1 i agree with you..latex can become very tedious and complicated sometimes...especially if u have 2 write a long message(personally i always mess up with the latex and end up writing in normal font :P )
The GUI is great, but it still involves typing it there, copying and pasting, etc. I still think we need a built-in font and color tool too
@KingGeorge
\[ \begin{array}l\color{red}{\text{W}}\color{orange}{\text{o}}\color{#E6E600}{\text{a}}\color{green}{\text{h}}\color{blue}{\text{}}\end{array} \]

@JA1 \[ \begin{array}l\color{red}{\text{T}}\color{orange}{\text{h}}\color{#E6E600}{\text{a}}\color{green}{\text{n}}\color{blue}{\text{k}}\color{purple}{\text{ }}\color{purple}{\text{y}}\color{red}{\text{o}}\color{orange}{\text{u}}\color{#E6E600}{\text{!}}\color{green}{\text{}}\end{array} \]

Amistre is a cool dude. I admire him :3
How do you make the text bigger? or change the text format?
@Preetha She would probably be the next one needed to comment on this :)
you use \Huge or \large i think \[\large this ~ is ~ a ~ test ~ for ~ timma ~ O:\] \[\huge this ~ is ~ a ~ test ~ for ~ timma ~ O:\] \[\tt this ~ is ~ a ~ test ~ for ~ timma ~ O:\]
Nice Idea, I think OpenStudy needs improvement when it comes to the UX. A simple font selection option would be awesome for the HCI factor. Either that, or you could just integrate Markdown script. It's much easier than latex. Maybe something like this http://d13yacurqjgara.cloudfront.net/users/7971/screenshots/1425071/screen-shot-2014-02-15-at-8.00.42-pm_1x.png would be great for the UI.
Let me photoshop something in, brb
Haha horrible example (never did one of these before) but hopefully it gives an idea of what this would be like :) It would probably be best if users could use the font directly in the writing box, but if it had to be inserted it, that would be fine too
A circuit lab simulator for electrical engineering students
and live blackboard, so it is easier to teach the student
@Jamierox4ev3r woops xD I forgot to hide my work :3
Comp, the notebook button isn't there for me.
Same
Yeah circuit lab will be cool.
@poopsiedoodle what is a notebook button?
@Compassionate linked to a screenshot of it earlier in this thread
But then the Mech folks will ask for a stress-strain simulator.
nice :)
well maybe there is a way that circuit lab will be allowed... Like Stackoverflow they have it
ooh... and free grammar and spell checker for eng. students
is there an OpenStudy t-shirt? I want one for Free...
@PixieDust1 as said above, we are currently working on actually stabilizing ourselves first and the adding features.
Yup, that's why I don't want to bug Preetha ma'am with suggestions that may be unrealistic at this time. More features = more website bugs. I think the font feature would be important and yet basic to add (at least in comparison to the other 2 options).
Especially since they don't have a whole team of engineers @pixieDust1 I'm helping her with some designs and CSS codes she asked me to do, they're WIP at the moment tho.
Here are two conepts of how the font feature could fit in the UI
Wow cool!! those look really nice. :D
ad some smiley...
Thanks :) and yeah @AntiNode
\[ \large thirty five\] \[\huge Lets see if it works \] \[ \huge \begin{array}l\color{red}{\text{L}}\color{orange}{\text{e}}\color{#E6E600}{\text{t}}\color{green}{\text{s}}\color{blue}{\text{ }}\color{purple}{\text{s}}\color{purple}{\text{e}}\color{red}{\text{e}}\color{orange}{\text{ }}\color{#E6E600}{\text{i}}\color{green}{\text{f}}\color{blue}{\text{ }}\color{purple}{\text{i}}\color{purple}{\text{t}}\color{red}{\text{ }}\color{orange}{\text{w}}\color{#E6E600}{\text{o}}\color{green}{\text{r}}\color{blue}{\text{k}}\color{purple}{\text{s}}\color{purple}{\text{ }}\color{red}{\text{w}}\color{orange}{\text{i}}\color{#E6E600}{\text{t}}\color{green}{\text{h}}\color{blue}{\text{ }}\color{purple}{\text{t}}\color{purple}{\text{h}}\color{red}{\text{i}}\color{orange}{\text{s}}\color{#E6E600}{\text{ }}\color{green}{\text{;}}\color{blue}{\text{P}}\color{purple}{\text{}}\end{array} \] \[ \huge \begin{array}l\color{#00FF00}{\text{Y}}\color{#00FF00}{\text{A}}\color{#00FF00}{\text{Y}}\color{#00FF00}{\text{!}}\color{#00FF00}{\text{}}\end{array} \] \[\huge \begin{array}l\color{Purple}{\text{T}}\color{pink}{\text{h}}\color{purple}{\text{a}}\color{pink}{\text{n}}\color{purple}{\text{k}}\color{pink}{\text{s}}\color{pink}{\text{ }}\color{Purple}{\text{C}}\color{pink}{\text{h}}\color{purple}{\text{i}}\color{pink}{\text{b}}\color{purple}{\text{i}}\color{pink}{\text{♡}}\color{pink}{\text{}}\end{array} \]
@dumbsearch2 Oooooohhhh are you doing any fancy CSS3 Animations? But then again that would slow down OS xD Anyway they look nice, much cleaner and sleeker than the current buttons and boxes.
ahh I see, going the route of JavaScript for animations, at least it will still be faster than having it handled by the AJAX
@Preetha
Preetha ma'am, do you have any thoughts about the idea of a font/color option, maybe like the type that dumbsearch2 designed?
I've always felt like there should be a button on the Draw editor to just automatically fill the space with grey graph lines across the whole thing kind of like this: |dw:1394672014423:dw|
