Both are right, assuming you meant (n-1) in the first equation.
yes what tomhue said. i was checking your first and thinking, what did bailey do wrong?? then i realized your signs were different.
Oh yeah right:D. If you don't mind checking a couple more: Find an equation for the nth term of the sequence. -3, -12, -48, -192, ... Answer: an = -3 4^n - 1
Find the first six terms of the sequence. a1 = -6, an = 4 • an-1 Answer: -6, -24, -96, -384, -1536, -6144
